At the end of last year I wrote a short story called “American Classic” for a competition run by the Shortbread short story website. The competition was being sponsored by the clothing company D.S. Dundee and the only stipulation was that the story had to be based on a picture taken from one of their catalogues (read more about it here). After bombarding everyone I know to vote for the story I ended up winning the competion. The prize was in three parts – 1. the story was emailed to all of Shortbread’s subscribers (now over 7,000) 2. D.S. Dundee sent me a nice bit of designer clobber and 3. Shortbread would produce a professionally recorded audio version of the story and host it on their site.

I am now very happy to announce that the audio story is now finished and available to listen to (for free I hasten to add). Actor Ewan Donald does a skillful job of narrating the story with real feeling and with an authentic sounding American accent to boot!  Suffice to say I am over the moon with how the story has turned out.

You can find the story here and have the option of listening to it via the website or downloading the mp3 file. The text version is also available as a text, pdf or epub file.

Enjoy!
